In this guest blog, Corporate Member Helen Kelly reflects on the recent breakfast briefing to the IACC given by Hon. Julie Bishop MP that took place at the Matheson offices in Dublin.
Matheson and the Irish Australian Chamber of Commerce (IACC) recently hosted Hon Julie Bishop MP, Minister for Foreign Affairs in Australia's Federal Coalition Government, during her ministerial visit to Ireland.
The breakfast briefing at Matheson marked the start of the visit, the first of an Australian Minister since 2004. Attendees at the breakfast briefing included H.E Richard Andrews, Australian Ambassador to Ireland; H.E Breandán Ó Caollaí, Ireland’s Ambassador to Australia; IACC Irish Chapter President Peter Oakes and Vice President Vincent Crowley; and a large number of IACC’s Corporate Members. Guests enjoyed an interesting and informative discussion on Ireland and Australia’s unique relationship which focused on the strong economic links between the two countries, opportunities to collaborate particularly around FinTech, as well as the potential challenges posed by the Brexit referendum.
IACC Irish Chapter President, Peter Oakes, commented, “It gave us great pleasure to welcome Hon Julie Bishop MP to Dublin. We believe that there are so many opportunities available to foster and develop stronger ties between the two nations particularly in the areas of Innovation and FinTech.
