Irish Chamber

International ties to bring Irish Engineers to Australia

Date:
Friday, June 5, 2015

In March 2015 the IACC announced a strategic partnership with Engineers Ireland to support the many Irish Engineers involved with the Chamber and enhance the capability on the ground for Engineers Ireland as they established their ANZ chapter. One other aspect of the partnership was to support the many Australian businesses who could benefit from Irish talent to help unlock their potential. In this guest blog, James Thomas from CSL Behring describes their opportunities for Irish Engineers.

Situated forty minuted drive north of the World’s Most Liveable City, Melbourne, CSL Behring’s Broadmeadows facility has been the recipient of significant capital investment in recent years. One of four global Blood Plasma processing facilities, the site forms part of an integrated supply chain that supplies a rapidly expanding worldwide biotherapy marketplace. CSL’s R&D Laboratories and Global HQ are just 20km away, in the leafy inner north of Melbourne’s sprawling metropolis. The Broadmeadows site has a unique role to play within the CSL Behring organisation as the Global business continues to grow and expand at a robust yet sustained pace.

The rate of growth with respect to the other local Pharmaceutical manufacturers, throughout Australia’s burgeoning industry, is not without its challenges. The availability of suitability qualified and experienced Pharmaceutical professionals, equipped with insights acquired via working in a range of distinct environments, is an ongoing concern for the team. In recognition of the vital role and responsibility the business (being largest employer in the space in Australia) has to play, the company is devoted to fostering the next generation of Talent via graduate development programs and internships. However there is also an acute awareness that this will help mitigate future Talent supply challenges, not the ones that exist today.

What does this mean for you? We are interested in hearing from career pharmaceutical professionals who are able to consider relocation, either via a 2 or 4 year scheduled sponsorship or permanent relocation to our amazing cosmopolitan lifestyle. We have current live opportunities for people with; Strong Aseptic (sterile injectable) operational knowledge, a suite of Validation skills and all manner of Pharma Engineers. We are in a position to provide relocation assistance and have targeted the Irish community of Pharma professionals specifically, as we have a strong ex-pat community/network already based here.

The Broadmeadows plant has some fantastic projects underway currently; The Biological Manufacturing Facility ($86M), a Research and Development facility supplying the global network with Recombinant Therapies for clinical trials, opened in late 2013, A brand new Privigen facility ($152M) undergoing validation activities currently, with the view of supplying the enormous US market with Immunoglobulin products in early 2016, An AlbuRx facility ($153M) for commercial scale Albumin based product creating an additional 200 full time jobs on site. All of this is rounded off with continued reinvestment in our main plant which continues to supply APAC with a range of bespoke services.

How do I get more information? We have a dedicated site recruiter who is available to answer any enquiries about what we have on offer and how we can help facilitate a career enabling move. Contact James Thomas to begin the dialogue.
